China has sharply raised tariffs on U.S. goods to 125% in retaliation for President Trump’s recent tariff hikes, which now bring the total U.S. tariff rate on Chinese imports to 145%.
Beijing criticized the continued escalation, calling it economically senseless and warning that further U.S. tariff increases would be ignored.
While both sides appear to have reached a peak in tariff measures, there’s no sign of renewed negotiations, and the trade war continues to strain global supply chains.
Despite the tensions, China has held off on broader restrictions against U.S. firms and reiterated its openness to equal-footing talks.
